Junior Club Ratings / August 2009

Read this excerpt from Golf Test USA:

“For the past couple of years Golf Test USA has received many requests to evaluate junior clubs. Today most junior clubs have been specially designed to take into account the physical characteristics of younger golfers. We contacted many of the golf companies that make kids golf clubs and asked them to participate in this new category. Several of the companies agreed to have Golf Test USA test and review their junior golf sets. Most sets included a golf bag, one or two metal woods, 3 or 4 irons and a putter. Some included head covers for the woods. Typically junior golf sets come in different sizes to accommodate age groups from age 5 to 12. We had young golfers use each set to practice with and play a couple of rounds of golf and then evaluate several criteria we thought would offer an indication of the design, quality and performance of each set. It took us several months to accomplish this, as the logistics involved were substantial. Let us know if you would like to see testing on other junior clubs. It is also helpful if you contact the manufacturer and let them know that you want GolfTest USA to include their clubs in our testing regimen.

Golf Test USA tends to stay away from offering anecdotal comments regarding the testing that we conduct, preferring to let the actual ratings speak for themselves, but in this case we want to offer our observation that all of the junior clubs submitted to us for testing were excellent products. Junior golfers will find that any of these sets with be good for them to get started as they learn the game of golf.

The junior clubs that achieved the highest ratings have been awarded GolfTest USA’s “Seal Of Excellence”. Those junior clubs have been designated with three asterisks after them. “Seal Of Excellence”. Those irons have been designated with three asterisks after them.

Let us know if there are other junior clubs you would like us to test and we will contact the manufacturers and see if they will participate in our next testing cycle. requestatest@golftestusa.com

Junior Clubs with three asterisks have received the GolfTest USA “Seal of Excellence”

Junior Clubs Design Quality Appearance Playability Overall
Giant Junior Series*** 8.6 8.6 8.6 8.7 8.7
Merchants of Golf Red Zone*** 8.7 8.7 8.8 8.6 8.7
Players by Golf Gear*** 8.7 8.8 8.8 8.7 8.8
PowerBilt Junior Series*** 8.8 8.8 8.7 8.6 8.8

Over several years of testing GolfTest USA has determined that when subjective and objective ratings from our Test Administrators and the golfers taking the test are combined the overall rating is a very accurate indication of the actual performance of any particular golf product. There is only a small difference in the ratings yet even a couple of percentage points difference from one club to another is significant enough to indicate a club that performs at a superior level to other clubs”.

How to Locate the Best Kids Golf Clubs and Equipment

There is a lot to decide when it comes to purchasing kids golf clubs and equipment. Many people may not think so at first, but it is true. While there are more adults than there are children who are interested in the sport, there is often more selection in kids golf clubs and equipment. This is done for the most part in order to capture the child’s attention and make them more inclined to be interested in the sport as a result of being interested in the ways in which the kids golf equipment is being marketed and produced for children. In many instances, when parents are trying to get their children interested in something, they will try to find a way to make the item or situation appeal to their child. In the case of kids golf equipment, there are many instances in which parents will look for golf items that will appeal to their children either through the images depicted on the equipment or the color schemes that are used.

When it comes to kids golf clubs and equipment, there is equipment that is made with the images and likenesses of cartoon characters. Some of the shows that are featured on television are so popular with kids, that almost all kids’ items will offer a piece of their selection that is adorned with images from the television show. Sometimes this can have a profound effect on the price of the kids golf equipment. In the event that some of the kids golf clubs and equipment will have popular pictures on them, they are more likely to be inflated when it comes to the price of the item, since kids will be more likely to want these items because of the designs on the items.

This is often the case, even if the materials used are not the best. It can be more cost effective for parents to try to find kids golf equipment on the internet, if this is the case. Purchasing the items on the internet is a good idea because there are often retail stores online that will sell the same items for less than the department stores or sporting goods stores will sell the kids golf equipment to consumers. If a manufacturer knows that a specific theme is trendy at the time, they will be more comfortable with inflating the price for the time period that the item is desired, since parents will be more willing to spend money on these items if it is what their children will appreciate most.

It can be challenging at time for parents to get their children interested in sports. When it comes to the game of golf, it can help parents get their children excited about the game if the children are greeted with the image of something familiar on their kids golf equipment. Not only can it interest the child in the equipment, but it also may help them to be more open to the idea of golf as a game and sport for them to play in their free time.

Getting The Right Fit For Your Kids Golf Clubs

If your child is suddenly showing an interest in golf, perhaps it is time to get her or him their first set of kids golf clubs.

Finding a set of kids golf clubs in a physical store can often be challenging and, even if you find a store that sells kids golf clubs, they often only carry one brand making selection limited. On the other hand, shopping on the internet for your kids golf clubs you are offered an unlimited selection from all the major brands. Here is a list of helpful hints to help you on your online research when looking to purchase kids golf clubs.

For a successful online shopping experience there are three things you need to know for getting your child the right kids golf clubs . You need to measure their height in order to get the correct shaft length. You also need to determine their activity level to decide how often they might use the clubs, and you need to know their level of experience at the game of golf. All of these factors will work together to help you determine the right kids golf clubs to buy for your child.

The golf manufacturers give you two ways to choose the right size for kids golf clubs: by age or by height. The majority of kids golf club manufacturers put an age suggestion on each of their kids golf sets. Usually these age ranges often cover 2-3 years. This will give you an approximate starting point as you begin to shop for kids golf sets . Because each child is different in size you should first measure your child to determine their height in inches . Each set of kids golf clubs also has guidelines for how tall the child can be to fit that particular set . Even if your child fits the age grouping for the clubs, their height is more important and needs to take precedence over how old your child is.

Fitting kids golf clubs is of utmost importance since these clubs will be the building blocks that the young golfer has to utilize while learning the game of golf . The newest technology in kids golf clubs include lightweight steel and graphite making these golf clubs easier to use. These lightweight junior flex shafts and club heads have made it much easier for kids to be successful in their initial attempts in learning to play.

When choosing the best set of kids golf clubs be sure to order them large enough that these new junior golf clubs will last for at least 2 seasons. So if your child is on or near the high limit of the height chart, you will want to get the next higher size. Buying the set for the smaller size means you may have to buy a new set of kids golf clubs each year.

Sometimes children who are just starting out in golf will not have a good experience with the game and will often lose interest so you won’t want to spend a lot of money at the start on an expensive brand name kids golf clubs. Any youngster who has a talent for the game will be able to play with less expensive kids golf clubs, as long as they fit . If your child does decide he or she is not interested in playing golf, at least you won’t have wasted a lot of money on an expensive kids golf club set. If your child shows talent and enjoys the game of golf , you can always order a better set of kids golf clubs at a later date.

The last consideration is the athletic ability of your child. If your child is highly athletic, purchasing a set of kids golf clubs in the next size up is perfectly okay and enables them to hit longer drives due to the extra length in the shafts. Just be sure not to go more than 2 inches over their recommended length as having too long a shaft can cause problems that will be difficult to correct as they continue to advance in the game.

By keeping these considerations in mind when researching kids golf clubs , you can help your child to play a better golf game and to have a fun time on the course.
